Black Panther sold more advance tickets on Fandango in its first 24 hours than any other MCU movie, besting previous record holder Captain America: Civil War. Long live the King!

Seeing this film has given me and many other African-Americans so much life. I think White people, in particular, take for granted how it feels to see someone of your skin tone being portrayed as a hero. And not only is the Black character a hero but he’s the King of the most advanced country on Earth and the wealthiest person alive. It’s not every day that we get to witness this iconic dynamic in a blockbuster film. The movie looks to be different from any other film that Marvel has released thus far. The film’s wardrobe alone, complete with African garments, should put it in the conversation for an Oscar. The visuals of the film look equally amazing.
There is one breathtaking scene in particular in which T’Challa, played by actor Chadwick Boseman, is walking in a royal white dashiki surrounded by the image of panthers lurking above in trees tree and a beautiful aurora-filled sky. As a photographer and filmmaker, this imagery simply makes me gush.
Best believe, I will be attending the premier in London in an African Dashiki.
